Rongchang Porcelain Ode
In the west of Bashu, south of Western Chongqing, lies an ancient county named Rongchang. Endowed with graceful mountains and rivers, it stores fragrant pottery clay. The clay comes in red and white hues, and fire refines the harmony of yin and yang.
Anfu boasts elegant waters, with pottery kilns standing in great numbers; artisans emerge generation after generation, passing the craft like a burning flame. It inherited the simplicity of the Han Dynasty, the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty, the elegance of the Song Dynasty, and reached its peak across Southwest China in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Looking at its wares, the body is as thin as paper and the glaze as smooth as jade; when tapped, it rings as clear as a chime, and feels as solid as stone in hand. Artisans use knives instead of brushes for carving, while underglaze painting keeps its colors fresh and lasting through ages.
A millennium-old ceramic capital, the crown of intangible cultural heritage; today's Rongchang, is writing a new glorious chapter.
